Hunting with HoundsSurvey

NWG research into the impact of Hunting with Hounds

Hunting with hounds was made illegal in 2004. 'Trail hunting' being allowed instead, with restrictions in place to protect wildlife.

The Nature Watch Group (NWG) are concerned that 'trail hunting' is being used as a smokescreen to cover wildlife crimes, and that frequent hunt meets have a significant detrimental impact on the wellbeing of rural wildlife and residents.

NWG is researching the impact of hunt activity in rural Dorset and Somerset, by inviting ordinary members of rural communities to complete a short survey.

All submissions will be kept anonymous and data will be kept inline with legal data protection and GDPR guidelines. Participants can ask their submitted identifiable data to be deleted at any time.

Submissions will be collated and information used to promote conservation, protection and improvement of the natural environment.

NWG is aware that 'the hunt' is a divisive issue and respect confidentiality. NWG feels it is important to allow ordinary members of rural communities to have a voice. The survey will take just a few minutes of your time and may be very helpful in protecting wildlife.

Survey closes 21st September 2025.

*Your information will be kept securely. If you would rather submit this questionnaire anonymously, we do understand, however it would be helpful for us to be able to identify responses.

1) Do you find hunt activity to be beneficial to yourself?

2) Have you been affected by hunt activity negatively in any of the following ways? (select all that apply)

3) If yes to any of the above, did you notify the police?

4) Do you feel that current legislation and punitive measures are adequate?

Thank you for taking part in this survey.

Please forward this link - https://bit.ly/HwHSurvey - to the survey to others who may wish to partake.
